HOPE
Limited Edition - Only 10 framed prints available.
Through the dark, I see the light. Faint as it is, it shines bright. The old house burns, the place where my secrets were kept. Abandoned now, only the ghost in the window casts a shadow. With the intense flames, hope is born; like a phoenix, I am too.
Original image of an abandoned house in the dead of winter surrounded by snow and fields in rural Alberta. Extensive manipulation by layering 44 other photo images I have shot to create the effect and satisfy my vision of what hope meant to me. No fire, mountains or water were actually shot in the overlay images.
The small details which make up this image are things such as the ghost in the window with the shadow that goes against the natural light (like the opposing force holding one back). The tiny twigs on fire, the small things that tend to catch fire that end up creating a bigger flame, such as the tiniest spark of inspiration to let the darkness go. The small bubbles of light leak that tent to represent that idea. And the fog and mist which to me is meant to be interpreted as clouded judgment. The image of the burning house is symbolic to the old being let go and the lush and promising background is what is being fought for. This is not the guarantee that there is a better life but jump in and see where this river takes you as what is beyond is surely better than what you are leaving behind. Knowing that there is a life beyond the shadows and darkness, being able to see the light, gives you hope…..
